Fantasy College Hoops: Wednesday - Week 8

The college hoops action was fast and furious on Wednesday night, as 6 of 8 players scored more than 20 fantasy points.

Providence's LaDontae Henton (35pts, 8reb, 1stl, 1blk) and Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky (18pts, 14reb, 2ast, 1stl) led the way, dominating in conference opening victories over Creighton and Penn State.

Crazy Legs posted a respectable 155+ total fantasy points in Week 8. But will it be enough to hold the remaining challengers at arms length? We'll see if the New Year will ring in another win for the Crazy Legs franchise.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard and statistics for Week 8.

Fantasy College Hoops: Tuesday - Week 8

Louisville's inside-outside duo went head-to-head on Tuesday night. While both of them dazzled, Terry Rozier (23pts, 7reb, 3ast, 6stl) bested his teammate Montrezl Harrell (16pts, 3reb, 2ast, 2stl, 1blk) in the Cardinals' 63-48 rebound win against Long Beach State.

Tuesday's top performer was Baylor's Rico Gathers (13pts, 11reb, 1ast, 4stl, 2blk) in a 92-51 rout of Norfolk State. Heading into Big XII play, Gathers has double-doubled in five of his last seven games. Unfortunately for New Year's Resolution, his other four players thus far have combined for just 50+ fantasy points.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard and statistics for Week 8.

Fantasy College Hoops: Monday - Week 8

Duke's Jahlil Okafor (27pts, 8reb, 1ast, 1blk) was the top performer on Monday night. The 6'11 freshman tallied a career-high 27 points while shooting 12-for-15 from the floor. Okafor led the way in the 86-69 blowout of Toledo, as the Blue Devils improve to 11-0 on the season.

Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Week 8

Conference play opens up during Week 8. With most of the cupcakes in the rearview mirror, we'll see if the big-time performances from the non-conference season were fool's gold or just an appetizer to the main course.

Here's a look at the starting lineups for Week 8.

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Week 7

Kansas State and Marcus Foster (17pts, 3ast, 1stl) couldn't avoid a holiday hangover, losing at the buzzer to Texas Southern 58-56. Foster shot 7-for-15 from the floor, but failed to grab a rebound for just the third time in his career. The one-dimensional effort from Foster sealed Champions' fate, crowned The Blacksmith as Week 7 champ.

The backcourt duo of Georgetown's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera and Oregon's Joseph Young combined for 80+ fantasy points, helping The Blacksmith forge his way to a victory in Week 7.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Week 7

The Blacksmith will head into the final day of Week 7 with a comfortable lead. Georgetown's D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (29pts, 2reb, 4ast, 4stl) led the Hoyas to a 91-87 overtime win against Indiana in Madison Square Garden. The junior guard matched a season-high with 29 points (including 7 in OT) and five 3-pointers.

Fantasy College Hoops: Tuesday - Week 7

As one of the most popular players thus far, Auburn's Cinmeon Bowers (13pts, 15reb, 1ast, 3stl, 3blk) did not disappoint in Week 7. Bowers rebounded from a 1-for-6 shooting performance in the 1st half against upset-minded Texas Southern to finish with his third double-double in the Tigers' last four games.

Fantasy College Hoops: Monday - Week 7

Monday night was a mixed bag for the Champions franchise. Connecticut's Ryan Boatright (20pts, 5reb, 8ast, 1blk) and Notre Dame's Pat Connaughton (21pts, 10reb) combined for seven 3-pointers and 68+ fantasy points. But a dreadful 1-for-10 shooting performance from Kansas' Perry Ellis (5pts, 3reb) in a 77-52 upset by unranked Temple put Champions' backs squarely against the wall.

The Hammer and The Blacksmith both raked in the points for the monster performance turned in by Oregon's Joseph Young (25pts, 11reb, 4ast, 2stl) in the Ducks' 82-78 overtime win against pesky UC Santa Barbara. The senior point guard continues to light it up from behind the arc, burying 14-for-31 (45%) over his last four games.

Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Week 7

Week 7 kicks off the holidays with a Big Monday double-header. A pair of Top 10 teams go on the road to take on unranked foes hoping to spring the upset. #10 Kansas (9-1) travels to Philadelphia to take on Temple (7-4) and #5 Wisconsin (10-1) squares off against California (10-1).

Saturday features what is being billed as the non-conference game of the year. In their first true road game of the season, #1 Kentucky (12-0) will hop on I-64 to battle #4 Louisville (10-0). Some are saying this is the last game standing between Kentucky's goal of an undefeated season.

Here's a look at the starting lineups for Week 7.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Week 6

The Hammer drove the nail in Move Bitch, Get Out The Way's coffin on Saturday. After averaging just 12.4 points over his last five games, LaDontae Henton (27pts, 6reb, 2ast, 2stl) found his stroke in Providence's 85-65 blowout of Massachusetts.

Notre Dame's Jerian Grant (10pts, 4reb, 9ast, 2stl, 1blk) weathered a 3-for-13 shooting performance by dishing out 9 assists without committing a turnover. The senior point guard was one of six Fighting Irish to score in double-figures in a 31-point rout of in-state rival Purdue at the Crossroads Classic in Indianapolis.

What an entrance! The Hammer waits until Week 6 to submit his first lineup, and then posts the league's high-score for the season thus far. A head-to-head victory over Move Bitch, Get Out The Way was simply the cherry on top of a dominating performance. The Hammer will claim he's just warming up... but right now, it's clearly Hammer Time!

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Week 6

As the lone player in action on Friday night, California's Tyrone Wallace (21pts, 11reb, 3ast, 1blk) took advantage of the spotlight. The 6'5" junior point guard led the Golden Bears in scoring for the sixth consecutive game, improving to 10-1 on the season after their 78-67 win over Eastern Washington. The Hammer continues their scoring onslaught, while challenging for this season's high-score.

Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Week 6

The non-conference season is winding down. But there are still plenty of great games to watch, especially over the weekend.

#21 North Carolina (6-3) vs. #12 Ohio State (8-1)
UCLA (8-3) vs. #1 Kentucky (11-0)

MGM Grand Showcase (Saturday)
UNLV (6-2) vs. #13 Utah (7-2)
#16 Oklahoma (6-2) vs.#17 Washington (8-0)

Here's a look at the starting lineups for Week 6.

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Week 5

Random Assortment of Players I Found Using Google still had to feel relatively confident heading into the final day of Week 5. But West Virginia's Juwan Staten (15pts, 2reb, 3ast, 2stl) failed to log more assists than turnovers for just the second time this season. The senior point guard continued his mini shooting slump, and is now a frigid 33% from the floor over the Mountaineers' last four games.

Crazy Legs didn't take the lead until late Saturday night. But in fantasy college hoops, it doesn't matter how you start... only how you finish. And with that, let the Crazy Legs celebration begin!

Here's a look at the final scoreboard and statistics for Week 5.

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Week 5

Crazy Legs entered Saturday's games in last place, but finished with a 20+ point lead heading into the final day of Week 5. Led by Maryland's Melo Trimble (14pts, 12reb, 3ast, 1stl), who posted his first career double-double against USC Upstate. The Terps lost their leading scorer and senior leader Dez Wells to a broken wrist on Nov 25th. Since that time, the freshman Trimble - a homegrown McDonald's All-American - is averaging 16.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Week 5

Iowa State's Bryce Dejean-Jones was arrested on Wednesday night, after a noise violation turned into a marijuana charge. Head Coach Fred Hoiberg  suspended the Cyclones' leading scorer for Friday night's game against Iowa. After the smoke cleared, it was a crushing blow for Bo Knows, knocking him off of his high horse and essentially weeding himself out of any chance at a victory this week. Maybe Friday isn't the best night to play BDJ moving forward...

Fantasy College Hoops: Thursday - Week 5

While there are no players in action tonight, I have one quick update.

As commissioner, I had to step in and explain to Crazy Legs how a calendar works. So I allowed the following mid-week substitutions...
  • Kansas F Perry Ellis vs. Utah 11/13 replaces Duke C Jahlil Okafor (no game this week)
  • Maryland G Melo Trimble vs. USC Upstate 11/13 replaces Virginia G Justin Anderson (no game this week)
And with moves like this, I had to give Crazy Legs a second chance!

Fantasy College Hoops: Tuesday - Week 5

Louisville's Montrezl Harrell (21pts, 11reb, 1ast, 2stl, 1blk) loves the big stage, and few are bigger than Madison Square Garden. The Hoosiers simply couldn't handle Harrell's physical play in the paint, as he stretched his double-double streak to four games. The Cardinals had three players score 20+ points -  including career-highs from Terry Rozier (26) and Chris Jones (24) - while cruising to a 94-74 victory over Indiana in the Jimmy V Classic.

Fantasy College Hoops: Monday - Week 5

As the lone player in action on Monday night, Purdue's AJ Hammons (13pts, 12reb, 1ast, 1stl, 5blk) made quite the splash for Random Assortment of Players I Found Using Google. The 7-foot, junior center notched his first double-double of the season in just 22 minutes of action off the bench in Purdue's 63-43 win over IPFW.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Week 4

Well, it wasn't pretty... but that's B1G basketball. Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky (15pts, 10reb, 1ast, 4stl, 3blk) gave Cinnamon Challenge and On To The Next One a much needed shot in the arm.

Buckeye backcourt mates went head-to-head, and D'Angelo Russell (19pts, 4reb, 4ast, 2stl) got the better of Shannon Scott (4pts, 3reb, 4ast, 1stl) in Ohio State's 20-point victory over Colgate.

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Week 4

For Cinnamon Challenge, things took a drastic turn for the worse on Friday night. Auburn's Cinmeon Bowers (1pt, 5reb) was a complete non-factor in a 58-54 home loss to Coastal Carolina.

Meanwhile, Louisville's Montrezl Harrell (13pts, 12reb, 3ast, 1stl, 2blk) helped On To The Next One counter-punch after posting his third consecutive double-double in an 82-57 rout of FIU.

Fantasy College Hoops: Player of the Month (Nov)

The first installment of Player of the Month goes to Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky. The 7-footer entered his senior campaign with a bevy of preseason accolades and lofty expectations. Coming off a Final 4 appearance, Kaminsky was named an AP Preseason All-American and ESPN's #1 Player in College Basketball.

Through Wisconsin's first seven games, Kaminsky averaged over 31 fantasy points per game. After starting the season with three double-doubles, he was named MVP of the Battle 4 Atlantis while leading Wisconsin to the title over a loaded field.

Like many of the Badger bigs before him, Kaminsky is a true inside-out threat. Thus far, he has shot 56% from the floor and 41% from behind the arc.

Up next is a marquee matchup of experience vs. youth (Jahlil Okafor) in the ACC/B1G Challenge vs. Duke on Wednesday night. While he is extremely consistent, Kaminsky often plays his best when the stakes are the highest. So regardless of the Badgers' opponent, don't expect a dip in his production. Right now, it's hard to imagine Kaminsky not in everyone's starting lineup.

So add one more award to your pile 'Frank the Tank', you are November's Player of the Month presented by The Ace of Sports!

Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Week 4

Week 4 features a ton of great matchups in the conference challenges with both teams ranked in the Top 25.

ACC/B1G Challenge
  • #2 Duke vs. #4 Wisconsin
  • #14 Ohio State vs. #5 Louisville
  • #24 Illinois vs. #15 Miami
  • #7 Virginia vs. #21 Maryland
SEC/Big 12 Challenge
  • #18 Arkansas vs. #20 Iowa State
  • #6 Texas vs. #1 Kentucky

Thanks to a pair of strong performances on Sunday, Hungry Hungry HypeOs is the winner for Week 3. Duke's Jahlil Okafor (21pts, 8reb, 1stl) and Oregon's Joseph Young (19pts, 9reb, 7ast, 4stl) led their teams to blowout victories over cupcakes and combined for 61+ fantasy points.

Fantasy College Hoops: Tuesday - Week 3

Penn State's D.J. Newbill (29pts, 5reb, 5ast, 1stl) gave Crazy Legs some much needed scoring on Tuesday night. The senior from Philly sunk 12-for-15 from the charity stripe and an efficient 8-for-12 from the floor.

Fantasy College Hoops: Monday - Week 3

Louisville's Montrezl Harrell (15pts, 9reb, 2ast) scored as many points as Savannah State (7) in the first half. Although he fell one rebound shy of a double-double, Harrell's 21 productive minutes finished as Monday's top performance.

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Week 2

A strong showing from Auburn's Cinmeon Bowers (20pts, 12reb, 1ast, 1stl) against UL Lafayette wasn't enough for A Shot in the Dark to secure a victory in Week 2. Bowers certainly looks more like a defensive lineman on the gridiron. But the 6'7 278-pound JUCO transfer is getting it done on the hardwood, with 3-straight double-doubles to begin his 2-year stint at Auburn.

After scoring 161+ fantasy points, Get Money, Get Paid is the winner of Week 2's jackpot. Congratulations!

Fantasy College Hoops: Thursday - Week 2

Thursday's lone performance was a sneaky play for Ice Cold Pop Machine, who continues to gain steam towards Week 2's finish line. As one of the more productive fantasy guards that no one has really ever heard of, Boston College's Olivier Hanlan (20pts, 3reb, 6ast, 1ast) is one of the ACC's best kept secrets.

The junior combo guard probably won't be able to lift the Eagles out of the conference cellar. But he could find himself on several fantasy rosters throughout the course of the season.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard and statistics for Week 2.

Fantasy College Hoops: Wednesday - Week 2

Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky (20pts, 15reb, 1ast, 1stl, 7blk) delivered a devastating counter-punch for Get Money, Get Paid and Ice Cold Pop Machine. Kaminsky has opened his senior campaign with three-straight double-doubles and an early favorite for Player of the Month.

After holding a relatively comfortable lead, A Shot in the Dark is not out of the woods just yet. But something tells me that's exactly where he'd like to be.

Fantasy College Hoops: Tuesday - Week 2

Well, it doesn't get much worse than that... with just 16+ fantasy points, Kentucky's Willie Cauley-Stein (7pts, 10reb, 1ast, 1stl, 1blk) outscores a trio of pedestrian performances by Kansas' Perry Ellis (4pts, 2reb, 1ast), Frank Mason (7ast, 1reb, 1stl) and Cliff Alexander (8pts, 8reb) in a humiliating 72-40 beatdown at the Champions Classic.

After an all-around miserable game and the worst showing in his tenure as head coach, I think Coach Self had the right idea in his post-game press conference...

Fantasy College Hoops: Monday - Week 1

A Shot in the Dark jumped out to an early lead after Monday night's games. The Iowa State duo of Georges Niang (10pts, 11reb, 3ast, 1stl) and Bryce Dejean-Jones (15pts, 7reb, 7ast, 2stl, 2blk) dominated Georgia State. In consecutive games, all five Cyclone starters scored in double-figures.

Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Week 2

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Week 1

Oklahoma's Buddy Hield (25pts, 7reb, 2ast, 1stl) scored 25 points in 28 minutes, while sinking all 7 of his 3-point attempts against SE Louisiana. The Sooners also got some good news when the NCAA ruled that senior transfer TaShawn Thomas from Houston would be immediately eligible.

Sunday's top performer was Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky (15pts, 10reb, 4ast, 1stl), who double-doubled for the second time in as many games. But Senior Night withstood All-Americans' late push and held on for a slim 2-point victory in Week 1.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Week 1

A pair of guards highlighted Saturday's fantasy college hoops action. Oregon's Joseph Young (32pts, 5reb, 8ast, 1stl, 1blk) torched the nets against Coppin State. The senior sharpshooter connected on 6-for-8 from 3-point territory while dishing out 8 assists. Preseason 1st team All-American Caris LeVert (20pts, 8reb, 9ast, 1stl, 1blk) flirted with a triple-double in Michigan's 92-68 rout of Hillsdale.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard and statistics for Week 1.

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Week 1

There were a handful of noteworthy performances on opening night of the fantasy college hoops season. Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky (16pts, 11reb, 4reb, 1stl, 1blk) paced the veteran squad of Senior Night with a double-double against Northern Kentucky. Their starting lineup averaged 28+ fantasy points, helping them race out to a comfortable lead. We'll see if it holds up through the weekend.

Father knew best in the Pitino Bowl played in Puerto Rico. Louisville's Montrezl Harrell (30pts, 7reb, 2stl) poured in a career-high 30 points, including 3-for-4 from behind the arc.

The high score of the night belonged to Iowa State's Georges Niang (30pts, 9reb, 5ast, 1stl) for the offensive-minded Cyclones. Niang fell one rebound shy of a double-double, but did lead the team in assists (5) while only committing one turnover.

Fantasy College Hoops: Monday - Championship

UConn's Shabazz Napier (22pts, 6reb, 3ast, 3stl) ended his college career with bookend national championships. In a game the Huskies led Kentucky wire-to-wire, Napier showed just how valuable great point guard play is in the Big Dance.

The senior from Roxbury became the 4th member of the "125-25-25" club (pts/reb/ast in single NCAA tourney) and the first since Kemba Walker led UConn to the NCAA title in 2011. The lone member of The Phoggy Doggs to advance past the Sweet 16, Napier gave the best goodbye present anyone could ask for... One Shining Moment!

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Final 4

A 30-game winning streak is a remarkable accomplishment in today's era of college basketball. Unfortunately for Gator fans, theirs was sandwiched between two losses at the hands of UConn. For the second time this week, Shabazz Napier (12pts, 3reb, 6ast, 4stl) slayed another tourney favorite to cut down the nets on April 7th. After eliminating Michigan State last Saturday, Napier guided the Huskies past top-seeded Florida and into the NCAA title game.

The encore between Kentucky and Wisconsin came down to the last possession. Julius Randle (16pts, 5reb, 1stl) failed to double-double for the first time this NCAA tourney. But the Wildcats' victory eliminated Bo Ryan and Frank Kaminsky, the remaining players on The Hammer and Señor Pollo's rosters.

Lightning struck twice, as Kentucky's freshman Aaron Harrison buried nearly identical, game-winning 3-pointers against Michigan in the Elite 8...

...and against Wisconsin in the Final 4.

Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Final 4

As commissioner, I would like to congratulate every owner on getting at least one player to the Final 4. Not one team has been 100% eliminated, which is a remarkable accomplishment.

Here's a breakdown of the remaining players:

F Dorian Finney-Smith (Señor Pollo)
F Casey Prather (Purdidn't)
C Patric Young (#'s Hashtags)

Connecticut Huskies

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Elite 8

The last half of this year's Final 4 was decided on Sunday. In the first game, UConn's Shabazz Napier (25pts, 6reb, 4ast, 1stl) continued to do his best 'Kemba Walker' impression against Michigan State. The lone remaining player from The Phoggy Doggs was brilliant under the lights in the Madison Square Garden. Napier sunk four 3-pointers and all nine free throw attempts. But more importantly, Napier knocked out Tom Izzo the entire Spartan starting five, which were so dominant over the course of the Big Dance.

The encore was equally as thrilling and came down to the last possession. Kentucky's Julius Randle (16pts, 11reb, 1stl, 1blk) was unguardable for most of the game, notching his fourth-straight double-double for The Pink Jellybeans. Now, the freshman from Dallas will head home for the Final 4 in Jerry's World and try to deliver Kentucky their second NCAA title in three years.

Here's a look at the final scoreboard for the Elite 8.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Elite 8

Prior to their Elite 8 matchup, Wisconsin's players were asked how Arizona might describe them in 1-2 two words. Frank Kaminsky's answer? "White guys." Source

Well, Frank Kaminsky (28pts, 11reb, 1ast) is one white guy that can play some ball. The 7'0 junior showed off his range, burying 3-for-5 three-pointers. He was too big or too quick for anyone Arizona threw at him. After Kaminsky's 40+ double-double, Señor Pollo is in great position to make a late push, with three players already in the Final 4.

Arizona's Aaron Gordon (8pts, 18reb, 2ast, 2blk, 1stl) pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds in what is likely the freshman's final collegiate game. Wisconsin's Bo Ryan advanced to his first ever Final 4, but this game had to be a little bittersweet for The Hammer.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard.
