Fantasy College Hoops: Preview - Championship

The Championship is now a two-horse race between Goetz-anova and The Iron Men. Here is a breakdown of Monday night's matchup:

Monday, April 4th
#1 North Carolina (-2.5) vs. #2 Villanova @ 8:19PM on TBS

Villanova
G / Ryan Arcidiacono / Old Man Fischer
G / Josh Hart / The Iron Men
F / Daniel Ochefu / Goetz-anova

North Carolina
F / Brice Johnson / The Iron Men
HC / Roy Williams / Goetz-anova

Currently, Goetz-anova holds a 31+ point advantage over The Iron Men. Each owner has one player on each side of the matchup. Villanova's Daniel Ochefu is averaging 26.33 fantasy points. But if the Wildcats can cut down the nets or neutralize Roy's impact, The Iron Men's duo might sneak their way into the winner's circle. North Carolina's Brice Johnson and Villanova's Josh Hart have averaged a collective 55.61 fantasy points over the course of the tournament. I'm expecting a nail-biter, as this game is for all the marbles. Good luck!

Here are the starting lineups for the Championship.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Final 4

Saturday's pair of games were of the beatdown variety. Villanova's Josh Hart (23pts, 8reb, 4ast, 2stl) completely overshadowed Oklahoma's Buddy Hield (9pts, 7reb, 2ast, 2stl) in a 95-51 exhibition-like cakewalk. The Wildcats will meet the North Carolina Tar Heels on Monday night for the title.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard, standings and statistics for the Final 4.

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Elite 8

The Iron Men clawed their way back into the championship hunt on Easter Sunday. North Carolina's Brice Johnson (25pts, 12reb, 1ast, 1stl, 1blk) posted his third consecutive double-double. The Tar Heels brushed aside Notre Dame 88-74, which sets up a Final 4 matchup with Syracuse on Saturday. With four players still alive, can The Iron Men use their strength in numbers to cap an impressive comeback?

Here's a look at the final scoreboard, standings and statistics for the Elite 8.

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Elite 8

A pair of #1 seeds, Kansas (South) and Oregon (West) fell on Saturday. That mathematically eliminated Perry's Hairline and Hard Ball from any hopes of a championship. Oklahoma's Buddy Hield (37pts, 4reb) torched the nets, shooting 13-for-20 and burying eight 3-pointers. The senior's performance protected Some Buddy to Lean on's lead for one more round, as the Sooners booked their ticket to Houston after their 80-68 win over Oregon. From here on out, it will be a three-horse race with Goetz-anova and The Iron Men.

Here are the starting lineups for the Elite 8.

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Sweet 16

We're halfway to crowning a champion and the cream is starting to rise to the top. Friday's top performer, North Carolina's Brice Johnson (20pts, 10reb, 1ast, 1stl, 3blk) gave The Iron Men a much-needed shot in the arm. His second straight double-double advanced the Tar Heels to the Elite 8 and a matchup with Notre Dame.

Despite owning a 60+ point lead, Some Buddy to Lean on is now down to just two players: Oklahoma's Buddy Hield and Notre Dame's Zach Auguste. Will this outnumbered squad be able to survive the weekend?

After losing the #1 overall pick in devastating fashion, Michigan State's Denzel Valentine, Goetz-anova managed to avoid any other eliminations. Heading into the Elite 8 with a roster of six is quite a luxury. They should be able to close the gap if they continue to perform at their current pace.

Perry's Hairline desperately needs his Jayhawk duo of Perry Ellis and Bill Self to make it to Houston for a potential matchup with Oregon's Dillon Brooks. And The Iron Men's hopes are likely resting on the coattails of North Carolina's Brice Johnson. Both of these squads are facing a heavy deficit, so a lot of things must go their way if they want to crawl back into the race. We'll see how it all shakes out over this weekend's games!

Fantasy College Hoops: Thursday - Sweet 16

While no one has been officially eliminated yet, the Sweet 16 is when contenders start to emerge. Thursday's top performer, Villanova's Ryan Arcidiacono (21pts, 3reb, 4ast, 3stl) couldn't do much for Old Man Fischer's title hopes at this point. But the home grown Philly point guard helped the Wildcats blow past Miami. The win allows Goetz-anova's Daniel Ochefu (17pts, 2reb, 1ast, 1stl) and The Iron Men's Josh Hart (14pts, 3reb, 3ast, 1stl) to advance to the Elite 8 where they will face top-seeded Kansas on Saturday. Nova's 92-69 victory also eliminated a pair of Hurricanes Angel Rodriguez (13pts, 1reb, 8ast, 2stl) and Jim Larranaga for The Hammer, who is reeling after also losing Texas A&M's Jalen Jones (11pts, 10reb, 1ast) in the Sweet 16 as well.

Here are the starting lineups for the Sweet 16.

Fantasy College Hoops: Sunday - Round of 32

Although there was only one upset in Sunday's eight games, most came down to the wire. Notre Dame's Zach Auguste (16pts, 15reb, 1ast, 1blk) shot 8-for-9 from the floor and was Sunday's top performer. The Fighting Irish advanced to the Sweet 16 thanks to a tip-in with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. Some Buddy to Lean on led the league in scoring for the second straight round, but lost a pair of Kentucky Wildcats to elimination in the Round of 32. Will their quartet of Oklahoma's Buddy Hield, Duke's Brandon Ingram, Iowa State's Georges Niang and Notre Dame's Zach Auguste be able to hold the competition at arm's length?

Fantasy College Hoops: Saturday - Round of 32

Survive and advance... that's the name of the game in the NCAA tournament. And that's exactly what North Carolina did against Providence. The upset-minded Friars' dynamic duo of Kris Dunn and Ben Bentil combined for 50 points. But after both were saddled with foul trouble, they could not keep pace with Roy's Boys in the second half. A double-double from senior Brice Johnson (21pts, 10reb, 1stl, 2blk), Saturday's top performer, set the table for a matchup with Indiana in the Sweet 16.

The Iron Men have five in action today, so they have the most to gain on Sunday. We'll see who is left standing when the field is set for the Sweet 16!

Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Round of 64

The Iron Men were the only franchise to not lose a player in the opening round. And while it's still early, losing half of your squad at this point is not the best way to play Hard Ball.

Villanova's Daniel Ochefu (17pts, 10reb, 4ast, 1stl, 3blk) was Friday's top performer. His double-double against UNC Asheville helped the Wildcats cruise to an 86-56 victory. But the bigger story was rookie owner Goetz-anova's early gut-check. He'll need to gather the troops and try to overcome the loss of Michigan State's Denzel Valentine (13pts, 6reb, 12ast, 2stl), the league's #1 overall pick.

Big-time upsets, buzzer beaters, unlikely heroes... that is what the first two days of the NCAA tournament are all about. And Friday's games had it all. First, there was #15 Middle Tennessee taking down #2 Michigan State, a Vegas-favorite to get to Houston. Then, a half-court heave lifted #11 Northern Iowa over #6 Texas.

Fantasy College Hoops: Thursday - Round of 64

The NCAA tourney kicked off on St. Patrick's Day. Unfortunately, luck ran out on The Hammer's pair of 7-footers. Purdue's A.J. Hammons (16pts, 15reb, 3ast, 6blk) and Arizona's Kaleb Tarczewski (8pts, 10reb, 2ast, 3blk) were both victims in the opening round. Hammons and Tarczewski were initially billed as "one-and-done" type of post players. But even after four years, their collegiate careers come to a grinding halt.
