Fantasy College Hoops: Friday - Week 1

The end of November work weeks are typically reserved for some Friday Night Lights. But with just over 2/3 of our league starters hitting the hardwood, it was an action-packed evening of college hoops as well. Let's start with Week 1's Game of the Week. After the fast start by Sutton & Sons on Monday, Neenan's Warriors needed to make a statement. Marquette's Jimmy Butler (18pts, 6reb, 3ast, 2stl, 3blk) and Connecticut's Kemba Walker (18pts, 6reb, 3ast, 2stl) provided some early season fireworks. Now, this matchup hinges on Neenan's Warriors first round pick: Jeremy Hazell, Seton Hall's electric, scoring guard.

Other notable Friday performances featured guys stepping up in the wake of absent teammates. With Trey Thompkins - the Preseason SEC Player of the Year - nursing an ankle injury, Travis Leslie (16pts, 11reb, 2ast, 4blk) and Georgia squeaked by Mississippi Valley State 72-70. The Iron Men continue to wait out Selbygate, but Tyshawn Taylor (17pts, 1reb, 10ast, 3stl) took full advantage of running the point in the Jayhawks' 113-75 romp over Longwood. Unfortunately, The Iron Men left the door open to WGP when Baylor ultimately handed LaceDarius Dunn a three-game suspension, despite temporarily reinstating him due to his recent legal troubles. It will be interesting to see if WGP can take advantage of this early season power play, a golden opportunity.

Boilers and Crimson & Bluebloods got double-doubles out of their ACC power forwards: Virginia Tech's Jeff Allen (11pts, 14reb, 5ast, 4blk, 2stl) and North Carolina's John Henson (10pts, 17reb, 7blk, 1stl) both relentlessly crashed the boards. This heated matchup is still neck and neck, and will likely come down to the wire.

Despite narrowly missing a double-double of his own, John Shurna (31pts, 9reb, 3ast, 1stl) matched a career-high with 31 points and drained 7 threes, posting Friday's high score for Chalmers Chiefers. The Sinovic Bowl has been pretty one-sided thus far, but Gordon Bombay still has some heavy hitters left on his plate. Getting off to a 1-0 start is always good for team morale, especially when family bragging rights are at stake.

Here's a look at the current scoreboard.
