Fantasy March Madness: Thursday - Round 1
A fast start is a huge advantage in any fantasy league. But surviving and advancing is probably even more valuable, especially in the first round of the NCAA tournament. But if you're going to get upset in the first round, go down swinging. That was the case for Boilers and Greg Monroe (19pts, 13reb, 6ast, 2blk, 1stl), as #3 Georgetown looked completely lost against the #14 Ohio Bobcats.
As the top seed in the East region, #1 Kentucky hit the century mark, while brushing aside #16 East Tennessee State 100-71. The Wildcats' freshman backcourt of John Wall (17pts, 4reb, 11ast) and Eric Bledsoe (29pts, 3reb, 1ast, 1blk, 4stl) shot a combined 11-13 from behind the arc.
One of the sleepers in this league was St. Mary's Omar Samhan (29pts, 12reb, 1blk). WGP caught a huge break when the #10 Gaels squashed the #7 Richmond Spiders, advancing to play against #2 Villanova.
The high scorer from Thursday's games was Ekpe Udoh (20pts, 13reb, 5ast, 2blk, 2stl) and Baylor, getting their first NCAA tournament win in 60 years. The #3 Bears outlasted a stubborn #14 Sam Houston State squad, who couldn't buy a basket from three-point land - hitting only 6 of 31 (19.4%) attempts.
Here's a look at the current scoreboard.
